6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
One of the four great holy days of the Buddhist calendar, this festival celebrates Shakyamuni Buddha’s return to our troubled world from Tushita Heaven. He had gone there to teach, in order to repay the kindness of his mother, Mayadevi, who had been reborn in that realm.
As a Buddha Multiplying Day, the karmic results of actions done on this day are multiplied 100 million times. This amazing result is sourced by Lama Zopa Rinpoche to the vinaya text Treasure of Quotations and Logic.
We will begin our celebration with an offering of lights, followed by recitation of ‘The Sutra Remembering the Three Jewels’ and finishing with Shakyamuni Buddha Puja.
Whether or not you are going to be there for the evening, you are invited to offer solar lights anywhere in the garden beforehand (most need at least a day’s sun to charge them.) Please bring flowers, fruit and/or individually portioned packaged chocolates etc. (suitable to distribute among participants) for the altar offerings.
