9:00 am - 5:00 pm
The aspiration for enlightenment. Wishing to benefit others. Universal altruism. Buddhahood.
While the bodhisattva ideal is often referred to in Buddhist classes, we don’t always have time to go into the depths of what it means for oneself as an individual practising it in ordinary modern life.
This course will flesh out many subtle nuances of this profound topic as well as give concrete logistics of how and why to practice the bodhisattva vows – whether you have them already, are thinking about taking them or are just curious about what they are all about.
Formal presentation, relaxed discussion, question time and guided meditations suitable for beginners and advanced practitioners alike are all included.
For those who have been attending Geshe Zopa’s ongoing teachings on the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life, this retreat will provide an ideal opportunity to consolidate and integrate that learning, with expert guidance. However, it is not at all necessary to have done so.
It is strongly recommended that participants live in at Karuna, arriving on Friday afternoon and staying through to Sunday. The experience is quite different when you do this instead of going home each evening. You remain continually immersed in the retreat environment, supported by your fellow retreatants, and most importantly removed from your everyday responsibilities, cares and distractions. You are free to relax and focus fully on the unfolding retreat process. The residential program includes additional meditation sessions morning and evening as well as ample time to reflect and relax in the beautiful bushland setting at Karuna.
