Today is Losar, the first day of the Year of the Earth Pig, according to the Tibetan calendar.
For FPMT, Losar is a special time as it commemorates the anniversary of FPMT’s precious founder Lama Yeshe’s parinirvana at dawn of Losar in 1984. Without his extraordinary kindness and unfailing efforts neither the FPMT nor our own Kunsang Yeshe Centre would exist. Lama Zopa Rinpoche asks centres to provide students the opportunity to offer extensive Lama Chöpa with tsog in honour of this anniversary each year. Rinpoche says that one generates incredible merit by doing so. This Losar marks thirty-five years since the passing of Lama.
He had suffered from chronic rheumatic heart disease for many years but despite this and against doctors’ recommendations, he spent the last years of his life working tirelessly and without interruption for the benefit of others. Lama Yeshe was a living example of the path he taught and he moved the hearts of thousands of people during the fifteen brief years that he lived among Westerners.

Please bring flowers, fruit or delicious treats to offer on the altar. Since food offerings are distributed amongst the participants at the end, choose things that are easily shared out (eg. individual chocolates, mini-cheeses rather than a block, and so on)
Unable to attend? You can still join in by requesting special dedication prayers for yourself or someone you know. Send us your prayer dedication names to firstname.lastname@example.org. Consider making a small donation and we’ll buy special offerings on your behalf.
