Kunsang Yeshe Retreat Centre

Welcome to the website of the Kunsang Yeshe Retreat Centre, a Tibetan Buddhist meditation and study centre located in the Blue Mountains, Australia. We are affiliated to the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition (FPMT).

Our regular program activities include Buddhist teachings, meditation classes. weekend workshops and Puja’s (ritual practices). These are held in our beautiful meditation room (gompa) or in our library. In addition to our regular program we also host special events, such as talks and initiations by visiting Lamas, Geshes and teachers. For more details view our program. Be sure to join our email list there so we can let you know when our new program is online.

We are located at:
9 Sherman Avenue, Katoomba.

For details of opening times and classes, see our program page.

Although we have been operating in the Blue Mountains since 1992, our Spiritual Director, Lama Zopa Rinpoche, gave us the new name of Kunsang Yeshe in 2006.

Building Our Stupa

In 2008 we intensified our efforts to complete the Kalachakra stupa for World Peace that Lama Zopa Rinpoche advised us to build a number of years ago. At present it is located at Planet Ark in Wentworth Falls in the garden of our friends Willow and Stefan Mackay, whilst it is being completed.

The co-ordinator of the stupa project is Sue Emonson, and under her guidance, and that of artists Nerida McCarthy-Nielson and Sandor Nagy, we have had many enjoyable days in Nerida’s kitchen painting the moulds of lotuses, snow lions, double dorjes and other symbols that will eventually be affixed to the stupa (see below).

We have raised funds for the stupa partly through sponsorship of these moulds. For more information on how and what can be sponsored, in your name or perhaps in memory of a loved one, please email Sue at 52gumtrees@gmail.com

Meditation classes and workshops

Opportunities to develop the practice of Meditation are a key component of what we offer at Kunsang Yeshe. On Wednesday evenings from 7.15pm – 8.15pm, meditation teacher, Marg Bohler, has been leading guided meditation classes in our beautiful gompa (meditation hall) in Katoomba.

Resident teacher at Vajarayana Institute in Sydney, Wai Cheong Kok, visits Kunsang Yeshe regularly to lead and teach special Buddhist practices. Wai Cheong leads workshops on the practice of Shamatha or Calm Abiding meditation.
